Working full time means I have limited time with Emily during the week and a good chunk of our evening time is battling the commute home from day care and then 30-40 minutes in the kitchen cooking dinner. This usually results in her getting planted in front of the TV and coming in sporadically to the kitchen saying “I’m HUNGRY!” or “I WANT SOMETHING TO EAT”. Some nights, I just want to sit down with her, hear about her day and not worry about dinner. I also don’t want to spend a huge amount on takeaway every time I decide to do this. I’ve been on the hunt recently for some options that allow us to enjoy more dinner times as a family, with minimum prep and cooking time. I was doing the weekly shop the other day and stumbled across these Family Favourites at @woolworths_au and decided to give them a bash. I was a little cautious, because one of the things I’ve found challenging in the past with pre-prepared meals is that not everyone in the family likes them, but these were a hit with all of us. JACKPOT!
Tonight we had Potato Topped Chicken Pie and instead of being in separate rooms of the house, we played together, as a family… and in my humble opinion pretend cooking is WAY better than real cooking, right!? Emmy cooked up some princess strawberry cake with a delicious pumpkin cappuccino and we all took turns to feed baby Josie her dinner.
We had so much fun, laughing and being silly and I could see how much this time meant to Emily. Tonight we reclaimed 40 minutes of family time that’s usually lost to cooking/TV. It was such a nice change.
I’ve decided to give more of these meals a try – taste and convenience – ticks all the boxes for me.
